Just What Is Search Engine Optimization?
Search engine optimization is the process of creating a website that better answers a search engines users search query. SEO is what increases the odds of consumers finding your company among the sea of sites in all important search engines. It is both part art & skills as much as it’s a science.
Having a properly optimized website means that individuals would have the capability to retrieve the info that they need from your website easily, or that it satisfied their need in one way or another with little to no trouble doing so. Search engines are a result of that specific need itself. As time has gone on, company’s like Google and Yahoo have had the chance to develop their algorithms to better learn what users want. Currently, there are over 200 ranking factors employed by Google to determine a website’s position, 200!
Organic search engine results are considered to be the most credible websites according to the ranking factors, and most often you can see for yourself if this is true or not. But not everything is perfect, as such, algorithms of leading search engines change from time to time and your search engine optimization method should be modified to adhere to that. For instance, Google will generally make 1 to 2 major changes everywhere – be sure to keep an eye out for these.
A vital consideration to remember about SEO is that optimizing your site for search engines should also enhance your site’s user experience (UX). For example, not only should it deliver a clear answer/service/product but it should be presented it a well-structured manner. A piece of writing on a web-page is not going to get you any points here, that’s what blogs are for. Add relevant pictures, along with concise content. Make it as easy as possible for people to gather what they want. What we’ve described in this paragraph refers to on-page optimization, something we’ll delve further into in the next piece of writing.
Type of Search Engine Optimization
There are two main aspects to consider when optimizing your websites presence within search engines.
On-page: This covers everything from page-load speed to the size of your images. In the present age, it’s unacceptable to design a website which is not responsive. Just because a website is built doesn’t indicate it is going to be visible outside of directly sending people there. On-page optimization helps your site to compete with the competition in a wholesome manner enhancing its quality and visibility. You want to site is responsive (adjusts to different device widths), loads quickly, doesn’t have an absurd amount of code (HTML/text ratio), has quality content & isn’t hard to navigate.
Off-page: However beautifully designed your site might be, if your site doesn’t rank well in SERP (Search Engine Results Page), it will probably go unnoticed. This is where off-page SEO comes into play. The main components of off-page SEO are; link-building, content generation & social media. That’s basically it. Link-building refers to the accumulation of quality links that point to your website. Content generation helps your website become an authoritative figure by taking on the “professional” image for your niche/industry. Social media is also a big part because recently search engines have added this into their algorithms as a determinant of SERP.
